Ecuador counts 445 reptile species, 24% of which are endemic. If we compare these numbers to the country’s surface area, Ecuador houses the biggest density of reptile species in the world. The major part of these reptiles has recently been described and scientists are in agreement thinking that the number of identified species will increase considerably in the upcoming years.
